O’Keefe wins junior women’s all-around standings at 2017 P&G Championships

ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 20, 2017 – Maile O’Keefe of Las Vegas, Nev./Salcianu Elite Academy of Gymnastics, won the junior all-around title with her 114.450 total at the 2017 P&G Championships at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Emma Malabuyo of Flower Mound, Texas/Texas Dreams Gymnastics, followed with a 112.450. Kara Eaker of Grain Valley, Mo./Great American Gymnastics Express, rounded out the top three with 111.250. The women’s competition wraps up later today with the senior women’s final session.

O’Keefe earned a 57.250 on the final day of competition for a 114.450 total for the two days. Malabuyo posted a 55.400 today, and Eaker had a 55.700 on the second day.

The individual event champions are: Leanne Wong, Overland Park, Kan./Great American Gymnastics Express, vault, 29.450; O’Keefe, uneven bars, 28.250; Eaker, balance beam, 30.000; and Malabuyo, floor exercise, 28.050.

In addition to several post-Olympic gymnastics tour events, Honda Center also has played host to the 2003 World Gymnastics Championships and the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics. Honda Center and Visit Anaheim are working with USA Gymnastics to stage the championships.

The roster of former U.S. all-around champions is a veritable who’s who of gymnastics, including: women – Simone Biles, Jordyn Wieber, Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson, Carly Patterson, Courtney Kupets, Shannon Miller, Dominique Dawes, Kim Zmeskal and Mary Lou Retton; and men – Sam Mikulak, Jonathan Horton, Paul Hamm, Blaine Wilson, John Roethlisberger, Mitch Gaylord, Peter Vidmar and Bart Conner. The U.S. Gymnastics Championships traces its history back to 1897 for the men and 1931 for the women. This is the first time the event will be held in Anaheim, Calif.
